Whilst most companies are spending time explaining what big data is and why we should all jump on the big data train to somewhere, we prefer to invest our resources into real-world business problems.  Starting from the angle of business challenges and driving continuous improvement means that we can deliver solutions based on the proactive use of existing data. The type of data, locality of reference, variety, volume etc… are technical aspects of the solution and should not be the starting point for establishing business value.

  • AF is a data integration component that gathers data from multiple sources, and exposes this data via APIs. It helps customers close the gap between multiple technologies (Relational Databases, historians, web services, etc.) and between disparate systems such as EAM, LIMS and process automation.

  • AF’s capability to natively handle hierarchy models helps users to manage all company assets.

  • AF provides users with the capability to compute Analytics (reliability, production, roll ups and aggregates) that can be used to improve performance.

  • AF fully supports / implements a complete model -> from Facility to natural tag level binding

  • AF allows placing data in context allowing users to immediately understanding what is displayed and how assets are related.  This enables rapid response to process and equipment abnormal conditions.

  • AF enforces standards – Names, Unit of Measurement (UoM), references

  • AF fully integrates with the PI Data archive historian

  • AF supports a “true” class / instance based system that captures domain knowledge, applied consistently by class / templates.

  • AF provides sophisticated, visual tools for viewing / managing the model

  • AF models support multiple perspectives such as location, equipment type, etc.

  • AF includes APIs and tools for automatically distributing changes to other systems

  • AF is a natural complement to the OSISoft PI data historian, allowing customer to compliment best-in-class time-series data management with a model of their assets.  The integration of these two products makes operational intelligence possible.

In the case of a joint venture of a Fortune 500 company in Eurasia, IT Vizion developed a solution that allowed the customer to monitor their assets’ availability, status and reliability  in real-time. The solution integrates EAM, Process historian tags and document management systems into a model built on AF. AF Analytics is used to compute various metrics such as availability and to facilitate the roll-up of these metrics up to the unit  and management level. Additionally, AF is  used to drive the data visualization using Siemens XHQ via an integrated and dynamic approach that keeps both the XHQ and the AF model in sync. The solution also integrates early warning alerts from rotating and static equipment with additional decision support enabling the Reliability, Maintenance and Operations teams to decide what action to take once an early warning failure alert has been received…  This enhanced decision support has improved the overall business unit reliability and significantly improved the maintenance planning and scheduling.
