Don’t Think About Your IT!

1 year ago in , (0 comments)

IT Vizion’s Newsletter – Small Business – May 2010

Can you believe that we are telling you not to think about your Information Technology (IT)?  Afterall, we are an IT company!  You would expect us to tell you to do more with your IT, right?  Actually, we want you to think about growing and attending to your core business, and let us do the IT thinking for you. In the end, saving you time, money and headaches!

Focus on your job, not your IT!

This is our mantra.  We want our customers to focus on growing their businesses, not worry about the nuts and bolts of IT.  How much time are you spending on tasks other than your job? How much time is wasted on trying to make your computer systems and network run smoothly, secured, backed up, or fix an IT problem? How about not knowing how much a problem is going to cost, or if the “fix” will break other things? What if you could take that time and apply it to activities that will grow your business and increase your revenues? That’s the place where we want you to be.

Outsourcing or co-sourcing your IT may be the solution.

  • If you have an in-house IT department, IT Vizion can help them be more “automated”, be that extended IT partner for those difficult issues to resolve, provide disaster recovery coverage, or assist on special projects. Through our automated platform, you can do a lot more without adding overhead. IT Vizion can also be there for augmentation in case of vacation or illness.
  • Still relying on the non-responsive, overworked, “computer guy” or some other IT company?  Getting nickeled and dimed, everytime?  Then why not look at outsourcing your entire IT department to us?  Outsorcing is a much more cost-effective solution than hiring a full-time IT staff, or relying on the “computer guy”. We not only keep your systems humming along, but also secured and updated, your employees productive and happy, all the while becoming your SPOC (single point of contact)!  This means eliminating the “finger pointing syndrome”.  We are the one and only vendor you will have to deal with – ever again.  Just listen to one of our many happy clients:

“You don’t really want to think about your IT, you just want it to work. With IT Vizion, I never worry about our systems. I focus on my job as vice president. Our company, like most others, relies heavily on technology. If it isn’t working, neither are we. We are more productive because we don’t experience downtime.”

What do they mean?

As we talk to more and more small and medium-sized businesses, the question that we are faced with most often is the following: Are Managed IT Services the same as IT Outsourcing?  The answer is simply, no.

Here are some short definitions of the terms most commonly used and talked about when researching ways to reduce IT costs, while improving service:

Managed IT Services are those services which are rendered by a third party (ie, IT Vizion) under contracted SLAs.
IT Oursourcing are a specific type of managed service which involves the transfer of people and/or assets from the served to the serving organization.
Service Level Agreements are written documents which defines the nature and quality of service that is to be delivered to the customer.

If you have any specific questions or input regarding the above statements, I encourage you to post them here!  We’d be happy to review and reply accordingly.

All about consistency

Small business and medium business look for ways to cut costs. A few areas that they traditionally focus on, are areas of the business that is beyond their core competency which they can outsource. These include information technology (IT), human resources (HR), and accounting (AP) to mention a few.

One way that IT outsourcing can cut costs is by simply providing a consistent systems and network management across the business. Whether a user is located at headquarters, at home, or over seas, they should expect their computer system to function the same – no matter where they are. By providing a consistent IT to their users, businesses boost employee productivity.

Unlike the competition, IT Vizion automates our customers technology environment, with a focus on consistency. Whether it’s the CEO or a warehouse worker, our customers should expect to be treated and managed in the same manner across the board.

Why not?

Being at the helm of a company, I’m always looking for ways to make our organization more cost-effective and efficient.  That’s why I’m having a hard-time understanding why small and medium sized companies say “No” to managed services? Are they over-cautious about what aspects of their business they’ll outsource? Are they afraid to trust an outside provider? Or are they “just comfortable” with their current, less effective approach?

One thing is for sure, their Fortune 500 counterparts have figured out how to utilize BPO and IT outsourcing to their advantage.  They focus on running their profitable and growing business, while relying on outside expertise for specific functions.  This model has proved to be very efficient and cost-effective for these large firms.  So why haven’t more SMB’s taken advantage of it?  It could be that they don’t understand what managed services is all about or entails.  They may have the wrong perception that they have to “give up the farm”.  In a traditional outsourcing model that may be true, but not using managed services.

IT managed services provides SMB’s with a dedicated virtual IT department responsive to their every need. It is a combination of 24/7 monitoring of servers and critical services, ”one click” remote support, and on-site support without the transfer of any personnel or property.  The idea behind it is to save IT dollars (up to 60%) while providing a secure, performing and satisfactory employee computing environment.

If you’re a business leader that’s struggling with the managed services idea or have further questions, I encourage you to provide your comments below… Would love the opportunity to respond.
